I thought id post this to bring anyone who may be reading it up to speed, this being the fourth week of the fall term and all. As you will no doubt become aware by following this, I have never attempted ASL before and am learning at what could be called a "glacial pace", however, after attempting (and failing) three consecutive terms of Spanish 101, I have to say that I am more than impressed with my progress in this language.
I credit alot of this to two things. First and foremost, Professor Carl, who has made this an enjoyable experience from day one. I cannot over state how much impact the teachers attitude has on learning. Second, the ingrained intuitive manner in which ASL is set up. Many of the signs are common sense and dont take a rocket scientist to interpret. The only difficult thing as you may have guessed is interpreting sentence structure, which we are now beginning to do.
From this point on, I am to write a weekly summary at the end of each week on things covered. I am told this must be both accurate and breif....well here's hoping. I am also to make and upload a short video daily of me freesigning. This is intended to show my progression and aptitude with the language, but admittedly in the beginning I highly reccomend that no one drink any fluids while watching this, as it is likely to make a return trip through your nose, thus ruining your keyboard, and lets just say id rather not be responsible for that. And now withouth further adue, to the signing!!!
